If it feels like Liz Middleton is synonymous with INREV, then you would almost be right. As Office Manager, Liz has been with the Association for nine years and is the longest serving member of the team.
As she has seen the number of employees go from two to 20, it also means that her role to support the team has also evolved over than time. In the early days, she undertook the wide range of tasks necessary for a fast growing organisation. Now, besides the daily running of the office, she focuses on human resources and investor relations in addition to being PA to CEO Matthias Thomas. “I remember the early days when we were talking to one new member after another. It was a very busy time from member admin to hand filling files until after midnight for the conferences. It was a lot of hard work, but exciting.”
She has always tried to ensure that sense of fun and team spirit remains part of the ingredients in the office. “The team has grown but remained motivated and very together. I believe that a successful organisation is based on a strong and enthusiastic team.”
While she is likely to joke about her lack of knowledge of non-listed real estate, she has picked up a few things along the way, most likely from her close contact with the Management Board. “It’s fascinating with the INREV Guidelines and the Standard Delivery Data Sheet, that we are working on tools that can get the industry singing from the same hymn sheet globally,” she says.
So, on one hand she supports standardisation within the industry, but, on the other, when it comes to members it is most certainly not her approach. “We want our members to have a high quality personal service. If you call the office, someone will pick up the phone, you certainly won’t get voice mail or receive the standard letters and calls,” she says.
